What is The Island at Pigeon Forge?
This area of the Smoky Mountains continues to explode and with this expansion comes a place to enjoy walking through shops, attractions and plenty of dining options. Of course, all of this can be found at The Island Pigeon Forge Tn. Located right off of the main Parkway and nestled right up against the Little Pigeon River, The Island at Pigeon Forge is really starting to take hold as a place you have to visit. Just look for the giant 200 foot Great Smoky Mountain Ferris Wheel to get there. You can’t miss is and it can be seen towering above everything else from a long way off. At night it is especially easy to spot with all of the lights brightly lit on as the wheel as it continues to turn.
How much time should I allow at The Island in Pigeon Forge?
It really depends on what you want to do. Many people really enjoy heading over to Pigeon Forge The Island in the evening. This is when the Ferris Wheel and everything else around it is lit up and really adds to the excitement, particularly for the kids. If you enjoy shopping, you might need a few hours to make your way around everything. On the other hand, if you are interested in riding the Great Smoky Mountain Ferris Wheel and maybe grab a bite to eat, while walking around to to see what else there is to do, a couple of hours might be sufficient.
Parking and Transportation
It can be a pretty long walk to get to The Island of Pigeon Forge so plan accordingly. If you are traveling with your family, consider using the Fun Time Trolley System in Pigeon Forge. If you didn’t know already, this is a great transportation system to get you around Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg Attractions. Having a stop here at The Island makes it a great way to travel. There is also parking at this Attraction location as well. The Parking lot is to the east of the property and is very long. It gets busy closer to the evening so you might end up parking at the far end of the parking lot so plan to ride The Island transportation instead of walking the entire distance.
Dining Options at The Island
No matter what time of day you visit, there are plenty of Restaurant options available at The Pigeon Forge Island. Are you hungry for the best Southern cooking around? Try Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen where everything is served up fresh and available for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. Another Family Favorite is Margaritaville where you will enter the world created by Jimmy Buffet and sing along with your favorite songs. Fun for the Kids, Fun for the Family
We have already mentioned the gigantic, 200 foot Great Smoky Mountain Wheel but did you know this ride is available all year long. This is due to the enclosed, climate controlled gondolas that rise high above the city where you can see for miles around. Kids love the experience but it is a little pricey. The most talked about attraction would have to be The Island Show Fountains. This might be a smaller version of what you would find in Las Vegas but it is very impressive with the lights and movement to music. At night, it can be mesmerizing, to the point where you have to drag your kids away to do something else.
Shop till you drop may be an understatement
There are over 40 shops at The Island in Pigeon Forge Tn. Many geared for the Women to peruse but there are also some fun areas for the kids to enjoy as well. The Build-a-bear workshop is always a favorite for almost any age kid, even some adults like to build a bear. You might like to stop by a more adult shop like the Bootleggers Winery. More family places to stop in are shops like the Big Rock Candy Kitchen or if you are up for some magic, and what kid doesn’t like magic, be sure to stop in to Doc’s Magic Shop. Not only can you purchase some of your favorite tricks but they will also take time to show you how to use them..
Stay near the Island at Margaritaville Island Hotel
You can’t get any closer than staying at the Margaritaville Island Hotel. Just off the parkway located in The Island complex, the Margaritaville Island Hotel is a 4 Star experience worth checking in to. Staying at this hotel adds a level of service and attention that you cannot find at many of the other locations around.

As you can see, there is so much to do in and around the island, it is no wonder it just keeps growing. It might not be a place that you spend an entire day but it is hard not to spend half a day just to have something a little different to explore.
